Yay! It’s one of my favorite times of the year, Inktober. A fun little month long thing where people post and share ink drawings they’ve done each day. I’m not gonna get into any of the rants I’ve seen from some artists about how it’s just for ego-gratifying or what have you. I think it’s fun, and provides a good bit of motivation to get something done every day, even if you’re busy already.

So without further ado…this was yesterday’s piece. I’ll be posting today’s later. 14568151_1275311215834642_6240491106710837540_n.jpg

So yeah, I got featured on the front page of the Horror Sleaze Trash! website! They included several of my paintings, and some of my comic strip work. Go check it out!

Many thanks to founder/editor/poet Ben John Smith for the shoutout. You can find his poetry, photography, and even some drawings on the site. While you’re there, make sure to grab a copy of each of his books, they’re fantastic.

His newest book, White White White, can be purchased here as well. Show some support!

Anywho, that’s about it. Just working on some paintings and mainlining coffee.

Til next time kids!

A new day

So, I spent most of yesterday getting this blog all updated and cleaned up, and writing an artist bio for a website that I’m going to be featured in. Then, I watched Straight Outta Compton and did a wicked pen and ink drawing of Ice Cube.

Today, I think I need to knock out some more paintings for the Square. I have a few more Lips paintings in the works, along with a few more nudes. So it’s time to crank up some moody new wave/90s goth/punk/whatever and rock out.

…at blogging, at least.

Yikes, sorry about the long gap of no posts. Once I got back on the Square, I started selling pretty well, and most of my time went into making more paintings. And fucking around on the interwebs when I wasn’t doing that. So I apologize.

Quick recap.

Got back out on Jackson Square.

Painted what the hell I liked.

Sold them.

Got super lazy as far as taking care of my health and exercise.

Made enough to pretty much skirt through the summer, and stay at home in the A/C.

Realized that I’ve gotten fat and soft.

Lately, I’ve switched to a vegetarian lifestyle, and started biking 5-10 miles a day to start getting back in shape.

I also have started taking courses in comic-making from this awesome book, Drawing Words & Writing Pictures, by Jessica Abel and Matt Madden. They give lots of exercises and tips that I’ve never seen anywhere else, and it’s been helping me get off my ass and get to work.

So yeah. That’s the Cliff’s Notes version. Let’s see if I can start keeping this baby a little more recent.

Oh, and here’s some of the most recent paintings I’ve made. Ooh pictures…Unwind Swank I Want To (break free) Purple Dreams

It’s not much more than a corner of my bedroom, but it works.

A new day dawns…

I’ll do all the formalities later, but for now, welcome!

For those who don’t know, I’m a painter/ illustrator in the greatest city in the world, New Orleans, LA. I’ll post some work and links later, but for the most part, I paint figures and nudes. I’m also writing and drawing several comic strips as well, which I’ll be posting on here. I like coffee, and bourbon, and porn. And classic comics and cartoons.

To catch everyone up, I took a little over a year off from the artist life to go work in the oilfields (as a cook in the housing lodges) and save up some money to outfit my studio with more high end equipment, and to buy myself some time to work on projects that might not pay off immediately. Well, now I’ve been back for about 2 weeks, and after catching up on some rest, and doing some early spring cleaning, I’m ready to rock and roll.

One of the first orders of business was enabling myself to make and sell my own high quality giclee art prints. The cost of having prints made can sometimes be pretty pricey, so I thought, why not just bite the bullet, save up, and buy my own printer. It’s not cheap, by any means, and there’s lots of upkeep involved, but in the long run, it lets me be in charge of the quality and variety of my work. And if times get tough, I can always pick up printing jobs to get by.

So, 2 days after ordering, it came in. I’ll spare you the technical details of setting it up, but for the most part, it was pretty painless. It’s a Canon ImagePrGraf6400, and her name is Mathilda.

As you can see, she’s just fucking beautiful. I’m a proud papa.

So yeah, I’d write more, but it’s Carnival season, and I have some parades to get ready for.

Till next time!
