New pieces!

Posted: 2015-02-28 in Uncategorized

So all that Mardi Gras hoopla is over, and it’s back to work.

I’ve got one week left til it’s time to start hitting Jackson Square again. Admittedly, I’m a little nervous. Not just because I have to start hustling and dealing with the general public, but also, just being back out there. There’s more than a few artists out there that I’d just as soon never have to see or deal with for the rest of my life. As one would expect, when you put that many artists together in a selling venue, the crazy comes out by the truckloads. All I want to do is just sit back, work on some drawings, and sell my art. Hopefully, certain nutjobs out there can find enough decency and common sense to just leave me alone.

But hey, on a better note…I’ve been cranking out drawings this week. Here’s a small sampling

Happy Mardi Gras!

Woo Hoo!

Mardi Gras craziness

Posted: 2015-02-16 in Uncategorized

One more day left of all this Mardi Gras insanity, and we’ve only been to two parades! But between multiple doctor visits, and the nightmare that is trying to get anywhere in this city right now, getting smacked in the face with cheap, made-in-China beads isn’t exactly high on my priority list.

I just finished a new commission last night. It’s a tattoo concept piece for some friends from out of town. I call her Alice in NOLAland.

Ya got Alice with Day of the Dead makeup, the Queen of Hearts decked out as a Mardi Gras queen, and the Mad Hatter reimagined as a Voodoo Priest. And of course, the “drink me” potion is Absinthe. And the “eat me” is an order of beignets. It was a fun piece. And a good ice breaker since I haven’t done but one piece since I got home.

Oh my god. Mindblown. I want this to happen NOW.

The Nerds of Color

by Alice Meichi Li

There’s something obvious that’s been under our noses this entire time: Spider-Man as a Korean American named Peter Park, played by The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun.

‘Nuff said, as Stan Lee would say.

Not ’nuff? Okay.

It’s not much more than a corner of my bedroom, but it works.

A new day dawns…

I’ll do all the formalities later, but for now, welcome!

For those who don’t know, I’m a painter/ illustrator in the greatest city in the world, New Orleans, LA. I’ll post some work and links later, but for the most part, I paint figures and nudes. I’m also writing and drawing several comic strips as well, which I’ll be posting on here. I like coffee, and bourbon, and porn. And classic comics and cartoons.

To catch everyone up, I took a little over a year off from the artist life to go work in the oilfields (as a cook in the housing lodges) and save up some money to outfit my studio with more high end equipment, and to buy myself some time to work on projects that might not pay off immediately. Well, now I’ve been back for about 2 weeks, and after catching up on some rest, and doing some early spring cleaning, I’m ready to rock and roll.

One of the first orders of business was enabling myself to make and sell my own high quality giclee art prints. The cost of having prints made can sometimes be pretty pricey, so I thought, why not just bite the bullet, save up, and buy my own printer. It’s not cheap, by any means, and there’s lots of upkeep involved, but in the long run, it lets me be in charge of the quality and variety of my work. And if times get tough, I can always pick up printing jobs to get by.

So, 2 days after ordering, it came in. I’ll spare you the technical details of setting it up, but for the most part, it was pretty painless. It’s a Canon ImagePrGraf6400, and her name is Mathilda.

As you can see, she’s just fucking beautiful. I’m a proud papa.

So yeah, I’d write more, but it’s Carnival season, and I have some parades to get ready for.

Till next time!
